How To Measure Your Finger for a Ring Size

Take a piece of string or a thin strip of paper, and wrap it around the base of the your ring finger. Use a pen to mark the point where it overlaps, making a complete circle. Measure the length from the start to end of the string/paper where the pen mark is, in millimeters. This gives you the circumference measurement of your finger in millimeters, you can then use the ring size conversion chart  to work out your ring size according to several systems, we have included the UK and US sizing system below.

Finger sizes change slightly throughout the day. It is a good idea to measure the finger towards the end of the day, when the fingers are largest,do not to do it when the finger is cold, as this will make it unusually small.

If you are buying a ring as a gift, you could:

1. Ask a friend of your partner’s for her ring size.
2. Take a ring to a jeweller’s for sizing. If it is not possible to do this without her noticing, try:
3. Sliding the ring down a tapered candle or down your finger, then the circumference of the candle or the point of your finger measured as suggested above.
4. The ring can also be pressed into a piece of soap, clay or other soft substance.
5. You could also use a pen to mark the inside of the ring on a piece of paper and take this to a jeweller’s to be sized.
